Mustang Track & Field Trio Competes Oxy Invitational

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. – On Saturday, three members of The Master’s University men’s track & field program competed at the 2017 Oxy Invitational.

In the 1,500m, TMU’s Skyler Mikesell finished with a time of 4:00.80.

Later, in the 3,000m steeplechase, Alec Franco clocked a final time of 9:25.80.

Finally, in the 5,000m, Josh Sherfey finished in 14:31.53, setting a new lifetime best along the way.

Next Saturday, the Mustangs, who recently ranked 25th in the nation by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), will compete at the All on the Line Qualifier on the campus of Westmont College in Santa Barbara.

Based on their outstanding performances so far in the 2017 track & field season, the following Mustangs will have qualified to represent The Master’s University at the 66th Annual Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships from May 25-27 at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama:

  • Skyler Mikesell: Men’s 1500m
  • Alec Franco: Men’s 3,000m Steeplechase
  • Joshua Sherfey: Men’s 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, Marathon
  • Tim Gutierrez: Men’s Marathon
