May 25, 2017

GULF SHORES, Ala. – On Thursday, The Master’s University kicked off its time at the 66th Annual Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Skyler Mikesell competed in the first heat of the men’s 1,500m trial where he finished in fifth place (ninth overall) after recording a time of 3 minutes and 52.46 seconds, a new lifetime best.  On Saturday at 3:10 p.m. (CDT), Mikesell will compete in the men’s 1,500m final.  Notably, Mikesell will be the first athlete in TMU men’s track & field program history to compete in the 1,500m final.

Saturday is shaping up to be an eventful day for the Mustangs as Josh Sherfey will compete in the marathon at 6:00 a.m. (CDT) where he looks to become the second Mustang in program history to win the NAIA title and follow in the footsteps of Jeff Jackson, who won the event in 2010.  Also on Saturday, Alec Franco will compete in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final at 2:20 p.m. (CDT).
