SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – On Saturday, members of The Master's University men's track & field, who previously qualified for the NAIA Track & Field Championships, traveled to Santa Barbara to compete in the All On The Line Qualifier hosted by Westmont College. The Mustangs were not targeting this event for individuals to set qualifying marks for next weeks National Championships, as the roster for that event has already been set. However, Skyler Mikesell's performance in the 800m established himself as a national qualifier with an NAIA "B" standard. His time of 1:53.48 was indeed a PR for Mikesell with his time just off the school record for TMU in this event. He is not currently slated to compete in this event at the NAIA Championships, as his sights are set on the 1500m.
In the 1500m, Alec Franco ran a lifetime best with at time of 4:07.62. Franco will not be competing in this event at the NAIA Championships as he will focused on the 3,000m and the Steeplechase. In the same 1500m event, senior Josh Sherfey ran a 3:58.94 as part of his run toward nationals. Sherfey has qualified for four separate events at the National Championships, but he has his focus set squarely on the opportunity to win a national title in the marathon. Sherfey could become the second Mustang marathoner to win the NAIA crown, following in the footsteps of Jeff Jackson who won the event in 2010.
