Giants Draft Sexton

June 14, 2017

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – On the third day of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, The Master’s University’s third baseman Michael Sexton was chosen by the San Francisco Giants in the 14th round at pick 426.

In 2017, Sexton hit .394 with team-highs of 17 home runs and 64 rbi.  His .812 slugging percentage set a single-season record, and along with a .488 on-base percentage, combined for a jaw-dropping 1.300 OPS. Sexton’s outstanding performance on the diamond earned him All-Golden State Athletic Conference honors for the second year in a row.

Commenting on Sexton, TMU head coach Monte Brooks said, "The numbers Mike put up here at TMU are staggering. He was exciting to watch play and was truly a blessing to our program. The Lord gifted this young man with incredible abilities, and I am looking forward to seeing him perform with the Giants."

Notably, Sexton is the third Mustang in two years to be drafted by the Giants as former TMU standouts Conner Menez and Brandon Van Horn were picked by the club in last year’s draft.

Sexton marks the 40th Mustang in TMU baseball program history to earn a contract from a professional team.
